Why do my cashmere sweaters get holes?

Sometimes, we wear our sweaters and do not stock them in good condition, the holes are caused by ourselves.

There is also another situation, we store cashmere sweaters in good condition, but one day we found some holes on sweaters, now the most possible reason is that, some moths are in our wardrobe.

The good news is that we can fix any holes in our cashmere sweaters. Please do not worry about it.

There are many ways to repair a hole in cashmere, mostly depending on the contents of the material of your sweater. I will explain it as easy as possible for you to follow through so that you won’t struggle.

How to Mend the hole

To mend or sew the hole in your cashmere, first, you will need a matching yarn and embroidery needle. A matching yarn and embroidery needle usually comes along with the sweater when we buy it. If you do not get it, you can go to a store to buy a matching yarn. Taking your sweater will help you get the same or closer colored yarn.

Flip the sweater inside out. Then place your sweater on a flat surface. It could be a table or some people even use a Champagne cork. Thread your embroidery needle with yarn, but do not tie a knot at the end.

Run the needle through the knit loops carefully and pull the yarn gently. At tihs step, you are sewing in two directions, the second one going over the first one. Once you finish going over the hole, gently pull and tie the two ends together)

Another way to fix holes

In this way, you need prepare sissors, thread to match the sweater, and needle.

  • Step 1. Turn your sweater inside out.
  • Step 2. Find the hole and thread your needle, tying a knot at the end of your thread.
  • Step 3. Start at one end of the hole and go around the perimeter of the hole with your needle.
  • Step 4. Cinch the thread tight enough to bring the hole closed most of the way.
  • Step 5. Taking tiny stitches, sew the edges of the hole closed. You won't want to make big stitches because they're more likely to show on the outside of your sweater.
  • Step 6. Once the hole is completely sewn, tie off the thread by looping your needle back through the stitches you've already made.
